WORD: BEATBOX PERFORMANCE
Beatboxing is the deep exploration of extended vocal techniques to find new sounds and combine them in new ways. Beatboxing practice can turn a vocalist into a drumkit, or a sample pad, or a lead melody line. It is an art form that has drastically evolved from its hip-hop roots and make its way into popular culture and contemporary music practice.
Beatboxer and Educator Connor Malanos will be holding workshops for Primary students (90 minutes) and Secondary students (2hrs) during the school holidays at Cowra Civic Centre. Held over 3 days the workshops will then result in a small performance on the Monday night.
Connor’s beatboxing credits include various A Cappella groups, solo performances since 2015, at vivid 2019, a recent album launch, live sound effect artist for musicals, and even once in duet with a yodeller! He was selected to compete in the 2021 Australian National Beatbox Competition.
Connor has run live beatbox workshops around Australia and New Zealand. His professional development, workshops, and classroom sessions on beatboxing begin with students anxious to make even a single sound and end with students working in groups to create entire songs and soundscapes with just their voices.
Workshops are free to attend but bookings are essential.
Tickets to the performance are $10 per person
